Harpy Eagle Tours Panama
When we visit the Darien we usually stay the first night in a little town on the Pan-American Highway called Torti (Hotel Portal Avicar), but it has air-conditioned and nice rooms with private toilets, showers and American plugs to charge batteries.
We stay also in the town of Meteti, two nights, in basic hotels (The Aruba Motel or Bellagio Motel) also with private rooms, AC and private baths.
Darien Birding: We will bird in the Darien at different locations such as: Meteti, El Salto, Nuevo Vigia, and Yaviza, the last town before the roads ends, where we take boats to visit Harpy Eagle nests.
Safety:These locations are considered safe to visit, however tourist can only visit with organized tours with guides and previous permits.
In the Darien visitors should carry passports and send previous photos by email for us to process a permit to visit the Darien.
Logistics: Seen a Harpy Eagle in the wild is an awesome experience, but this day can be a long day. Boat rides from Yaviza could vary from 15 -40 minutes, the hikes varies from 20 minutes to one hour, around 5-8km mostly flat with few small hills, If the trail is long we could rent horses directly from the locals, this is not included in the trip cost.
